Resumen

Este artículo argumenta que los estudios sobre veteranos de guerra forman en la actualidad un campo de especialización historiográfica relevante y en expansión. Para ello, el autor rastrea los orígenes del interés de los historiadores por los asuntos de excombatientes y explora las diversas áreas temáticas y debates que componen esta tendencia historiográfica desde un punto de vista global, incorporando y comentando las publicaciones más relevantes producidas en varios idiomas y países durante las últimas décadas. Se diferencian tres subgéneros fundamentales: la política excombatiente, la problemática social y los estudios sobre la memoria bélica, así como otras temáticas asociadas y las últimas tendencias investigadoras.
