Resumen
El presente artículo examina, desde una perspectiva histórica, las transformaciones recientes en la política exterior de Estados Unidos. Se abordan tres dimensiones fundamentales: la consolidación de la presidencia imperial, el retorno del proteccionismo económico y el debilitamiento de las relaciones transatlánticas. Lejos de constituir una ruptura inédita, estas dinámicas se inscriben en tradiciones de larga duración que han marcado la evolución del sistema político estadounidense, particularmente en contextos de crisis o redefinición de su papel internacional. A través del análisis de precedentes históricos, se muestra cómo el unilateralismo, el uso expansivo del poder ejecutivo y el repliegue estratégico respecto a Europa encuentran ecos en etapas anteriores. Se sostiene que para comprender el actual momento geopolítico se requiere atender no sólo a los condicionantes estructurales globales, sino también a las tensiones internas de la democracia estadounidense.
