Abstract

En el cuarto de siglo posterior a la Segunda Guerra Mundial, la sociedad internacional quedó fascinada por el proyecto del desarrollo y su vinculación con los ideales de progreso, modernidad y bienestar. Durante este periodo, la promesa de la modernización económica y social se convirtió en una certeza colectiva que, a modo de verdad absoluta y revelada, movilizó a Estados, sociedades y entidades no gubernamentales por igual. La naciente Organización de las Naciones Unidas y otras instituciones fundadas por los vencedores de la contienda también abrazaron la utopía del desarrollo. Este artículo aborda el papel de las organizaciones internacionales en la cruzada del desarrollo global en conexión con el marco ideológico y geopolítico surgido de la intersección entre la descolonización y la Guerra Fría. A través de fuentes bibliográficas, se examinan el contexto, los discursos, los ideales del internacionalismo tecnocrático y los intereses nacionales que modelaron la misión modernizadora de las organizaciones internacionales en las décadas de 1950 y 1960. De este modo, el trabajo traza el cuadro global en el que se enmarcó la actividad de varias de esas organizaciones en la España del franquismo.
