Resumen

Desde la vertiginosa ruptura iliberal del primer año del segundo mandato de Trump, el presente artículo examina las circunstancias históricas que permitieron a Trump alcanzar la presidencia en 2016, y los hitos principales que han ido forjando el trumpismo en esta década. Desde 1990, los cambios de la sociedad estadounidense por el aumento de la desigualdad, la inmigración masiva y el cambio demográfico, la polarización política nacional y la trasformación del universo mediático explican la atracción del populismo etnonacionalista de Trump para muchos “perdedores” de la globalización después de la Gran recesión de 2008. El dominio y transformación del partido republicano en el MAGA, “la gran mentira” como conversión del desafío frontal a las instituciones democráticas en un relato cohesionador de defensa democrática frente “al fraude electoral” demócrata , la ampliación posterior del apoyo electoral MAGA en “la coalición de no educados”, el desprestigio del partido demócrata y la reacción cultural del movimiento anti-woke, son algunos de los hitos que están detrás de la consolidación de una fuerza antidemocrática como el trumpismo, ante una mayoría de electores que, en una sociedad aún más desigual desde la COVID 19, considera que el sistema político estadounidense está quebrado desde hace décadas.
